Foam Suppression Systems

Foam extinguishing systems are used especially in liquid fires with the risk of spreading. The pumped water is mixed with the foam concentrate with the aid of a fixed or variable interval proportioner. Afterwards, the foam generator expands by mixing with air at high pressure inside the nozzle or monitors and is sent to the fire scene from this discharge equipment. Unlike water quenching, foam is here; It provides a fast and effective solution by cutting the contact of fuel vapor with oxygen and preventing evaporation on the fuel surface.

Fire Extinguishing System Foam Types

Fire extinguishing foam types are classified according to their intended use and fire types. The purpose of this classification is to extinguish the fire in a shorter time and eliminate its growth. Another purpose of fire foam classification is that the components in the foam interact with the materials from which the fire originates, causing the fire to grow. For this reason, fire extinguishing foams are diversified.

1) Synthetic-based foam

They are foams used to extinguish natural gas, LPG and solid fires in paper, textile, wood, ventilation parts. Synthetic foam is produced from combinations of hydrocarbon surfactants and creates high volume stable bubbles.

2) Protein-based foams

They are low expansion foams obtained from hydrolyzed proteins and produced for large use purposes. It is preferred in fuel tanks on ships due to its heat resistance and dense structure.

3) Foam Extinguishing Systems by Expansion Rate

Each foam type is particularly suitable for very different protection scenarios.

Low-expansion foams are designed for application to the surface of liquids because of their properties.

Medium expansion foams are used to suppress toxic vapors or fumes.

High expansion foams are best suited for three-dimensional fires, but can also be used to extinguish spilled liquid fires.

Bladder Tank

The Diaphragm Bladder Tank is the foam storage and foam evacuation component of a balanced pressure foam proportioning system.

In order to extinguish it, the water coming from the system is applied pressure to the foam filled membrane and it is ensured that the foam is discharged to the proportioner and from there to the fire hazard area.

This foam solution is transferred to various foam discharge devices such as foam water nozzle, monitor and foam pourers, and extinguishing is done in the environment.

Bladder Tanks are designed and prepared in accordance with ASME standards.
